If visiting in the autumn, take care not to disturb seal pups at Porthmelgan. I was startled by one resting among the rocks and quickly retreated to the other end of the beach to leave it in peace. It proved to be a good move as the sun dipped below the clouds and lit up the boulders beautifully.
